The Town of Courtland

Courtland is situated in the fertile Tennessee River Valley of North Alabama (map). Incorporated on December 13, 1819 by the Alabama territorial legislature, the town's early settlers were wealthy planters from Virginia, Tennessee, the Carolinas and Georgia.

Today, Courtland has successfully achieved our goals of building towards the future while preserving our past. City services include a professional police department, fire department, and utility department (including our own water and electric services). Industries include agriculture, tourism, health/medical and a variety of businesses utilizing the massive George C. Wallace Industrial Air Park. Our rich past is preserved through the impressive Courtland Historic District which features 34 sites.

We invite you to come experience our history and join with us as we work towards the future.
